Are you in the business of fashion or beauty? Then you need to be on Instagram! With it’s 200 million users, the photo sharing app has become the go-to social network for young people to share what they ate, where they vacationed, and, most importantly, what they’re wearing.
So if you sell fashion or beauty products you have the opportunity to not only reach potential customers, but also adopt them as brand cheerleaders! Sounds like an awesome deal, doesn’t it?
Gaining a massive Instagram following isn’t easy, but I have a few tips that will definitely jumpstart the process!
Take great photos
Grainy cell phone pics just won’t cut it. Not on Instagram. Well, a few won’t hurt but generally you want visually appealing photos to draw people to your page. Take a cue from Refinery29, who fills their feed with colorful, creative and fashionable photos:
Beauty brand Etude House is also a favorite of mine. Check out these lovely photos!
Use the right hashtags
Check out Tags for Likes to see the most popular hashtags in your industry, but also look for other more niched hashtags. For example, if you sell clothing to fashionable black women then #chicnaturalistas, #bgki, and #blackfashion would be great tags for you to use. I should know, I’ve used them myself for Shop Lioness!:
Interact with your community
When it comes to community interaction, Modcloth has the right idea! Encourage your customers to snap photos of themselves wearing your products by offering them a chance to be featured on your feed!
Another way to interact is simply going through relevant hashtags and liking and commenting on photos that you actually enjoy! Curious users will check out your page and if they like what they see, they’ll follow you!
This year I caved and made a personal Instagram. Check it out and hit the ‘follow’ button!
