Chantay wearing Orchids and Spice culottes
When I came across cute boho-chic boutique Orchids and Spice on Instagram I knew I had to get to know the lady behind the brand- Chantay. As a fashion blogger, Chantay knows a thing or two (or three) about styling, and it definitely shows! Want to learn more about Chantay and her awesome online shopping haven? Of course you do. Keep on reading!
Hey Chantay! Tell us where you’re from and what you do?
I am from Atlanta, GA and have always had a thing for fashion, current trends and possessed my own sense of style. What started out as a high passion for something, led me into a career of working in retail for 7+ years and now, I own my own online shopping haven!! At least, that is what I like to call it.
What’s the inspiration behind Orchids & Spice?
More than anything O&S is a huge reflection of my self. I absolutely adore bohemian and modern contemporary styles so why not combine them! I also love to travel and adventure into consignment, vintage and resale shops. Now that ‘thrifting’ is kind of a popular thing to do now, I have a Resale District side of the shop as well. I want to bring something to table that I thought was missing which is showing off how beautiful African American woman and a wide range of diverse ethnicites can be the forefront of an online shop that doesn’t feature street wear or just body cons, but an array of different styles. I also want to keep it personal through our packaging. Every order is prepped and sent with special lightly scented flower petals and a handwritten note card. I feel that every girl should receive a floral delivery and we are creating that in our own way. What online shop does that? Right!
What would you say is the most challenging part of running an e-commerce store?
The most challenging part is really finding what works and what doesn’t work starting out. But you have to keep trying new things and take a lot of risks. Mistakes are bound to happen but I always accept a challenge.

What advice would you give to other young ladies looking to sell online?
Consistency like most things is the key. You need to stay relevant, current, constantly posting, building relationships with your customer and define your niche. It is all pretty cool, but hard work. Time management is HUGE for me and also something I am still working on.
Where do you see O&S in 5 years?
I hope to see O&S grow into being known for its 1 stop shop online experience while maintaining its personable feel and create a community of women or Orchid Spice Girls that loves style, loves finding a good deal and loves to get sweet gifts in the mail. I also wouldn’t mind having an actual storefront for people to come in and visit me as well!
Thanks Chantay! You’re awesome!
